Navigate 1.3.1- Discussing the LMS and the CMS
CMS- I have used Blackboard, a course management system, for my own classes and for delivering content when I teach professional learning courses. My online master’s degree was delivered through Blackboard as well. CMSs allow teachers to perform the following tasks:
· Put course materials on line such as documents in Word, Excel, PowerPoint without having to be converted to HTML
· Track student progress via online assessments which includes a gradebook
· Discussion boards
· Chat rooms
· Live instruction with Collaborate
· Easily create a website using templates so they are user friendly
LMS-Learning management systems are designed for:
· Registration for courses
· Tracking attendance
· Processing charges for courses
· Course catalogs
· Determining prerequisites for certain classes
· Generating a transcript
· E-learning /more interaction
The LMS is more robust and much more costly.
